
Salt is the common name for Sodium Chloride. A certain amount of salt is necessary in a balanced and varied diet. Adults and children need some salt to ensure the regulation of fluids in the body and for efficient body functions such as heart and muscle contraction.

Salt is present on the surface of snacks and so is tasted immediately. This can give the impression that savoury snacks are salty. In fact the average serving (50g) of roasted salted peanuts contains a similar amount of salt as a slice of wholemeal bread.

The GDA for salt for men & women is 6g.
The savoury snacks industry has reduced the amount of sodium in its products by 25% in the last 10 years. UB has made firm commitments to the government to reduce the amount of salt in its products still further and has already completed a large part of this work.
